Welcome

Greetings from Gulf Shores Elementary School.  I am Julie Pierce.  This is my second year at Gulf Shores Elementary School, and I continue to be both honored and excited to have the opportunity to serve the children and families of Gulf Shores.  I am a teacher at heart and know that education is one of the most rewarding careers a person could pursue.  My passion is improving education through a commitment to learning and meaningful relationships, all while having fun! 

The teachers and staff at Gulf Shores Elementary School are outstanding and friendly.  We see ourselves as learners as well as the students.  For instance, two initiatives, the Alabama Reading Initiative and the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative, are implemented in the classrooms.  Weekly, the teachers collaborate to improve the art and science of teaching to ensure student achievement.  We hope you will partner with us by reading to and with your child, assisting them with homework, and most importantly, getting your students to school each and every day.  Learning is going on every day, and we need your child in the classroom!    

These less than favorable economic times are presenting challenges for us at Gulf Shores Elementary.  In spite of a smaller staff, the teachers are teaching your children with the same enthusiasm and excellence as in prior years.  Our test scores continue to meet state goals and have improved!  The support staff is cleaning, cooking, and filing all with the spirit of cooperation.  Finally, the community has donated money and supplies to the classrooms in this year of zero funding.  Gulf Shores Elementary School is blessed!  Thanks to all of you for your incredible support!  We are going to have a wonderful 2009-2010 school year.
