In Ms. Danielle Ruffin's 5th grade class at Gulf Shores Elementary School, the students have been studying how the length of a shadow depends on the position and orientation of Earth relative to the Sun. The students went outside and traced their shadows in the morning and again in the afternoon. They compared their tracings to determine the position of the Sun as it appears to move throughout the day.
